Maureen & Dennis
Maureen (Appleton) Sorenson, creator and designer for The Heart’s Content, Inc. has truly enjoyed many venues of needleart her entire life. When she began her designing career in the early 70’s, her maiden name was Golden…..thus OMG! (one-over-one by Maureen Golden). A common namesake known to her stitchers for generations was Appleton. She has filled thousands of stitching nests with her unique creations of detailed counted thread designs, executing the piece on linen and silk with one gentle strand of fiber over one mere thread of the medium. The result is amazing clarity and detail. She now comes to the drafting table with such a fresh and unique gaze at the world of stitching today. Sweet it is! On Eleven Eleven Eleven, Maureen married her sweetheart Dennis, and remains in her original home with husband, and continues to create her passion for detail on grids for you to recreate in your own home. Happiness abounds, a lovely daughter Andrea, who grew up in her stitching world, assisting at many of the markets, also filling role as model stitcher, and creative inspiration for “sweet treats”, husband Charles, and my absolutely adorable granddaughter, Stella Irene. I am “YaYa”. Family has now also grown to include Dennis’s (PaPa) three daughters, and three grandchildren. One happy new family. Maureen has called Green Bay, Wisconsin home her entire life. Her other interests include gardening, home décor, golfing and fishing. Her happiest days are those with needle in hand, or charting instruments at the drafting table. At this tender age, a new life indeed in many ways. Absolutely loves being married, and recently retired from her medical profession of forty-two years, to again focus on the real love of her life. The Needlearts. Creating so many stitching pleasures for needleartists worldwide. Counting Blessings daily. Andrea Wochenske Andrea is Maureen's only daughter, so what choice did she have but to become a stitcher! Stitching since the age of four, I have always loved to cross-stitch but didn't REALLY get into it until college where I soon began to find it a stress-reliever. I just didn't know that eventually like my mother I would someday turn it into a part-time career as well. I am a full-time Chiropractor and College Anatomy Professor by trade so this is in addition to "my real life" but I wouldn't have it any other way. I approached my mom with the idea of starting a completely different cross-stitch design company about 3 years ago around the birth of my daughter Stella. I fell in love with all the "bakery-themed" decorations I was picking out for her nursery and noticed there was not a lot to pick from in the world of cross-stitch patterns. This is a passion that both myself and Stella's "ya-ya" Maureen hope to pass on to her and I can't think of a better way to do it! My poor husband has a workaholic, stitchaholic wife so thankfully he has plenty of his own passions namely hunting and fishing. I want this company to appeal to all potential stitchers, not just the "one-over-ones", and being small, chart only designs I think they just might. With Needle in Hand, Andrea
